Decades of experience in a young industry

In this relatively young industry, ACCIONA Solar Power has remained a pioneering frontrunner. Created through a joint venture between renewable energy giant ACCIONA Energy and leading solar developer Solargenix, ACCIONA Solar Power is the only company in the industry with the know-how technically and financially to bring a utility-scale concentrating solar power (CSP) plant to life.

ACCIONA Solar Power is an industry leader in the revolutionary development, construction, operation and maintenance of parabolic trough CSP plants around the world. With more than 20 years of experience in this field, the ACCIONA Solar Power team provides unprecedented expertise in the design, development, financing, construction and operation of CSP plants.

This experience is most evident at Nevada Solar One. Situated in the heart of Boulder City’s Eldorado Valley Energy Zone, Nevada Solar One is an environmentally friendly, renewable utility-scale solar power solution that creates power with near-zero carbon emissions. The 400-acre, 64-megawatt plant harnesses solar energy to power more than 14,000 homes every year. It is the third-largest concentrating solar power plant in the world and the first such plant built since 1991. Nevada Solar One represents a major renewable energy success story and has the potential to compete directly with conventional fossil fuel powered technologies.

How it all began

In June 1997, two leaders in solar energy, Duke Engineering & Services (DE&S) and Solar Roof International, Inc. (SRI), joined forces to create Duke Solar Energy. The resulting partnership set out to design, market, manufacture and install solar structures in residential, commercial and utility-scale systems. In March 2003, a group within DE&S separated to become Solargenix Energy. In 2005, ACCIONA Energy, already active in the solar industry in Europe, purchased a 55% stake in Solargenix’s Power Plant Division and in 2006 this joint venture gave birth to ACCIONA Solar Power.

ACCIONA Energy is a subsidiary of ACCIONA, S.A., a company that ranks among the world’s leading sustainability focused businesses centered on renewable energy, infrastructure and water treatment.
